How to import Splitwise to Paid Up
Checked October 2026
Paid Up can read the spreadsheet Splitwise exports for a group. You get every expense, every payment and the balance for each person, to the cent. Who paid and how each expense was split stay behind.
Step 1: Export a group from Splitwise
- Open the Splitwise app on Android and open the group.
- Tap the Export button near the top of the group.
- Share or save the spreadsheet file to your phone.
Splitwise makes one file per group, so repeat this for each group you want to bring over.
We checked these steps on Android only. On the web or an iPhone the buttons may be in a different place.
Step 2: Bring it into Paid Up
- Open Paid Up and tap Import from Splitwise on the Groups tab. You can also find it under Account, then Data.
- Pick a new group or one you already have, then choose the file. Paid Up reads it on your phone and never uploads it.
- Match each person in the file to someone in Paid Up, and pick This is me for yourself.
- Check the numbers. For each person, Paid Up shows the balance from your file next to its own. They have to match before you can import.
- Tap Import. If something looks wrong, tap Undo import, right away or later in the group settings, and everything it added is removed.
What you see afterward
Splitwise exports a net amount per person on every expense, not who paid. So imported expenses show that net amount for each person. You can still change the title, category, date and notes.
What is left behind
Who paid on each expense, how it was split, comments, receipts, and expenses with friends outside a group.
